BLACK HORIZONTS
BLODHEMN is a newcomer from Norway. Invisus is the only musician in the band but, yet Blodhemn has also the live line up. This one-man-band is the finest example that the so called old spirit of Norwegian black metal has been maintained. The sound of Blodhemn is based on various bands coming from Norway, but I could name a few and compare Blodhemn with (old) Enslaved and 1349.
Hello! Please could you tell us something about the Blodhemn for the beginning of the interview since the band has just released its debut issue? A few words would suit perfectly for the start.
Blodhemn is a one man black metal band based in Bergen, Norway. Blodhemn was started up by Invisus in 2004 and has maintained a one man band since then. In 2008 the first official demo “Logical Madness” was released and followed up by the MCD “Brenn alle Bruer” in 2010. In May 2012 Blodhemn's full-length album “Holmengraa” was released in Europe.
You've just released your debut full-length ''Holmengraa'' though Norwegian label Indie Recordings. It would be welcome if you could say few words about your first ever record.
Holmengraa is a album that has a lot of old school black metal influences but still manages to be original, powerful and with trash and rock'n roll elements . I have tried to make an old school black metal record in a new way, so you won't think “Just another black metal record”. You tell me if you think I have succeeded!

I could easily compare your bands with several Norwegian black metal bands such as Enslaved and 1349 for instance. It seems that you are obviously very inspired by Norwegian black metal scene (especially from 90s). Do you share my point of view?
Yes, I'm definitely influenced by old school Norwegian black metal.
As a matter of fact the band was found during 2004 but, yet you have released your debut effort in 2012. Why did you took so long until you have released your debut work?
The years between 2004 and until 2009 I used to both gather experience and skills around the various instruments but also to evolve as a songwriter. During this period my ambitions were to make hateful and aggressive music that I could one day unleash upon the world.
In 2009 I decided to make my work with Blodhemn more serious and started the writing process for Brenn alle Bruer. During this period I also gathered the live line-up and we had our first Blodhemn rehearsals.
I noticed that you have regular and live line-up so what could you tell us about your live activities and your further plans concerning the live performances in Norway and abroad?
We are planning a release party in Bergen, and that's all I can say at this point.
Also, you've released in 2010 one EP ''Brenn Alle Bruer'' so what could you add about this particular product?
Brenn alle Bruer is a rawer and right to the point record that Holmengraa. It's more like classic old school black metal records with simple songs and lots of energy. I would recommend it for people who enjoys fast and hard hitting black metal.
Aside of some bands that directly has influenced you in the creating of the music do you admire also some other bands from Norway? Do you have any favorite bands that you like from Indie Recordings?
I do not know the complete list of the bands signed to Indie but Audrey Horne and Aura Noir are favorites.
The cover artwork suits the music well. Since the lyrics are all written down in Norwegian please, could you unveil the topics of your lyrics and what can you say something about the link between the visual, musical and lyrical background of Blodhemn?
I am from an island Northwest of Bergen called Fedje. Holmengraa is barley within eyesight from Fedje and very often surrounded by crushing waves and ice cold mist. To me Holmengraa has an overwhelming aura of grimness and mysticism.
Originally I just wanted to incorporate Holmengraa in the artwork for this album, but eventually I realized that Holmengraa was a great and fitting title for the album also.
The Holmengraa (the island) is shown in the backtray artwork.
