WE ARE THE MANY

German metalcore combo Caliban is about to unleash its new offering „I am nemesis“, mighty fine slab of brutal and melodic modern metal! Andreas Dorner, vocal of the band, tells us all we need to know about it.
Hey there Caliban and welcome to the pages of Metal sound! How are you doing these days, guys?
Hey you too ; ) We´re fine, thank you.

First of all, congratulations on your new album „I am nemesis“! How are you satisfied with the album from this perspective?
Thank you and yes we are very satisfied with the turn out of the album.

„I am nemesis“ is Caliban's 8th studio album, how would you describe it comparing to the rest of your discography?
This record is the most powerful and modern record we made so far, it´s very varied and dark and it has a little touch from older Caliban records.

What would you say about the musical direction of the album and the songwriting process for it?
Marc used a lot new influences on this record to make the record as interesting as it can get, but all without losing Calibans roots. We tryed new sounds, a lot of new effects and all in all it makes the record so different compared to the previous records I think.

As always, lyrics are thought out and society aware; can you please tell us something about the themes included on this release?
These are the main topic´s on "I Am Nemesis" : false promises, lies, greed for power ( We Are The Many), child abuse (The Bogeyman), the worst disease nowadays - cancer, the death of my father and letting go (Memorial), unsatisfied, angry people who are afraid to break out, in this special case: the nazi´s (Dein R3.ich), greed for power, exploitation of the earth, oil (Edge Of Black), the power of the media and the sick and dumb tv programs these days (Broadcast To Damnation ), misuse of the internet, a modern way of war, disconnection from reality (Modern Warfare).

There are some guest musicians on the album, so please tell us something about your work with them, I guess that they are all your friends?
We know Marcus from HSB for a long time now, so you can say that we are friends...and we know Mitch (Suicide Silence) from the tour we made together, he´s a great guy, too...we started a poll on our facebook page and asked our friends about guest singers and Marcus and Mitch were known the most...so we asked the guys and everything worked just fine.

While we're at it, it could be said that your career went almost hand in hand with Heaven Shall Burn. Tell us something about your relationship with those guys, would you say that they are „brother band“ of Caliban?
You can say that, I mean we started the same time on the same label and played a lot of shows together, some tours and we did 2 split records.

You music is very brutal and aggressive, what do you think about „metalcore“ label of Caliban? Would you agree with me that European bands in that vein are way better than American ones?
It´s hard to tell, there are great bands on both sides!!!

Please share some words about your latest video clip for „Memorial“.
First of all, I am very happy with the video, it´s dark and modern...Thanks to Mark Kraemer @ Twenty-Dirt!!! The video is supposed to show how we get rid of the dark, of the pain, the bad... lyric wise It‘s the song about the death of my father who died on cancer, about letting go to live on.

Special edition of „I am nemesis“comes with bonus CD full of covers, in vein of your „Coverfield“ EP. What can you tell us about the choice of bands there, some pretty unusual ones I would say...
That was our intention, we wanted to cover not the usual suspects like everyone else in this genre...I mean there are some bands on it we grow up with like Anthrax, At the gates, but also songs we thought that they were just insteresting to cover, special in some way.

As I know, one very cool tour is already planned, tell us everything about your plans on that field in that department in 2012.
Actually we are already on european tour with Winds Of Plague, Attila, WBTBWB, Eyes Set To Kill @ "Get Infected Tour". We are touring almost all Europe and the shows so far were just great!!!

You have played in Belgrade with Machine Head, do you remember something special from that gig?
As far as I can remember the shows was one day after the death of Dimebag Darrel and everyone was very sad and upset because of that!!! The show was great, but it was way to cold ; )

What would you say about your career, which moment in life of Caliban was the best/proudest one?
That´s hard to tell, but one of the most important steps of Caliban was signing a contract with Roadrunner Records and after that with Century Media!!!

What are your most anticipated releases for 2012?
No idea, sorry.

That would be all for this time, I would like to thank you for this interview! Your last message to fans over here...
Thanks everyone for reading this and thanks for your support all over the years!!! Make sure you get "I Am Nemesis" and I hope to crush in Belgrade again!!! Keep it real.
