 KINGS OF SODOMYLong running German Metal force Desaster is back with their seveth full length „The arts of destruction“ which continues their travel on the road of metal supremacy. Singer Sataniac is here for one brief and informative chat.
Horns up, Desaster! Welcome to the pages of Metal sound, how are you doing guys? Everything is fine, ok this is the third interview for today but instead of this I feel happy, because now it’s weekend, and I stopped working an hour ago! Your new album „The arts of destruction“ is in front of us, how would you describe it to all the hellbangers across the world? This is Desaster with little differences to keep it interesting enough to buy another old school record. How would you describe it? Hahahaha Have you already received some reactions from fans and friends of the band? Does that play any role for the band? That doesn’t play any role, but the reactions are really good, even better than the albums before. Maybe this time we could reach world domination. I would say that „The arts of destruction“ features bigger throwback to your early days of blackish metal and cult albums such as “A touch of medieval darkness”… Do you agree with me here, was that intentional? Yes, I think the record is more BLACK than the last ones, but this came naturally and was not planned. Front cover look is totally black metal with its black/white imagery and motif, tell us who has done it and how are you satisfied with it? The cover is really great. Axel Hermann (TIAMAT, MORGOTH, ASPHYX,…) did it, and we are happy with this friendly painting. This is a picture to get calm and relaxed after hard days work. Seeing all these pleasuring things bringing mankind to its knees. Nice, fine, wonderful… Please share some info about the lyrical concept of the album, are themes again standard for you? Of course, there are no standard for me, I wrote the shit. It’s about the virus mankind and it’s fantastic creativity when it comes to destruction. It’s about the sun (Lacerate With Rays Of Doom), about people doing plastic music (Splendour…) about the perverted ritual most religions practicing in their funeral session (Guess which song?…hahaha). But there is no real concept. It’s about everything what needs to be hated in any way. This is your seventh full length, how would you place it in your discography and how do you look upon each and every album you have done? I place it at position 7, because it’s last album we have done. Ok, this is my 4th album with Desaster, and I love every album we have done. But my favorite is still “Satan’s Soldiers Syndicate”. Because of its fast and violent songs, and even within this fact it doesn’t bore me till today. But the new one is also a killer. So; please buy if you can stand this shit. I need a new Porsche…hahaha You have done some splits and EPs recently even if you are on big label such as Metal blade, are you still a fan of such underground releases? Can we expect something new from you in that field in near future? This is very serious for us. That is the kind of freedom we need. Metal Blade won’t tell us to stop these releases. When the time is right there would be another special for the fans, but there is nothing planned yet, we just released an album. While we’re at it, it seems that vinyl and old school metal seems to be back again with bands such as Ghost reaching huge success, how do you look upon this phenomena? Give the people something mysterious (the same with KISS only a little larger ! hahaha) and they will look at it. That’s not a phenomena in my opinion. Ghost have done a cool album, I don’t listen that often to it, but I have the vinyl at home. Vinyl gets more popular because this release is done with passion and you can’t copy it, like a CD or a shitty download. If you love a book or a record you need to own it. That’s my opinion and the people who loves music want to own it. All the others that doesn’t buy CD’s or vinyl’s will burn in hell that’s for sure. Germany is maybe the most known for Teutonic thrash trio – Kreator, Sodom and Destruction! How do you like their work nowadays? On the other hand, who are the most promising new names from Germany today? I only like the first albums of the trio. For me PLEASURE TO KILL is outstanding. PERSECUTION MANIA is great, but I’m not that much in Destruction. Yes, there are great bands today. My favorite German bands are THE RUINS OF BEVERAST and NECROS CHRISTOS, but we have a lot of good bands today, which keep the true spirit, and took it even further. KETZER, NOCTURNAL, GRAUPEL,… We were witnesses to many reunions over the years but very few captured the old flame successfully, what reunion was the best in your opinion? My vote would go to Asphyx or Autopsy… Yes, it seems you have a good choice if it comes to this. ASPHYX and AUTOPSY have done it with passion and that’s the way it has to be. This was driven by the love for music, not buy money I think. I love MACABRE ETERNAL and THE TOMB WITHIN. I just wait to get the DEATHHAMMER…I only listen to a few songs from the new ASPHYX album. Your love for metal is a well known fact, but could you tell us what are your favorite non-metal bands? I love music at all, but extreme metal is my passion. But I also like PINK FLOYD, DEAD CAN DANCE, RAINBOW, TANGERINE DREAM, … I was wondering what is going on with Okkulto nowadays, are you still in contact with him, what is he up to? I don’t know him at all. And he was not at our 20 birthday. All the other old members were there instead of Okkulto. I don’t know what he’s doing, but he’s not into music anymore. I also know that you are good friends with a lot of groups all over the world, what bands do you consider to be your best friends, brother bands if you will? There are a lot of good friends and comrades, and there is no need to have a best friend. What lies in the near future for the band, are you planning some tour to promote “The arts of destruction”? We are going to Columbia in April, doing some festivals in summer…the normal way to act for a band like Desaster…but we prefer to play single shows at the weekends. The live gig needs to stay a ritual! How do you recall those two shows you have played in Serbia? This was amazing, cause the people where very hungry, and of cause it was very interesting to see this country where you normally only see things on TV in this times a few years ago.
