 A COLD FUNERAL BREEZE
The music of Elffor was a huge surprise for me. And, indeed I’ve known about this particular band for so long, but I haven’t got the oportunaty to check out their (or should I say more) his music. During last year Elffor have participated on the tribute to Summoning and that finally was my chance to get into Eol’s art and music. So far, Eol has published and recorded several issues and ''Frostbitten Pain'' is his latest effort and probably the best so far. The key words for Elffor’s music could be medieval black metal, but, no doubt, there’s a lot more inside Eol’s music.
Hail Eol! Since this is going to be your first appearance in Metal Sound can you tell us some info about Elffor? So far you have already published several full-lengths.
Hell , Elffor is a Medieval Black Ambient band from Vasconia, come alive at the end of 1995!Discography:
"Into the dark forest..." CD, September 98 (Self released, limited to 500 copies)
"Son of the shades" CD, September 2002 (Self released, limited to 500 copies)
"From the throne of hate" CD, Summer 2004 (Self released, limited to 500 copies)
"Unblessed Woods" CD, Winter 2005 (Self released, limited to 500 copies)
During year 2006, german label NORTHERN SILENCE PRODUCTIONS contacted ELFFOR showing big interest in the band, and after some talking, an agreement was done, and the label re-released the 4 albums between 2006 and 2010 in different formats.
As a matter of fact, this is your personal studio project but yet you choose to have two more members in the band who help you when it comes to recording guitars and drums.
It is a luxury to have 2 great musicians as Jabo (guitars) and Ametsgaizto (drums) , they are only session musicians.
''Frostbitten Pain'' is your latest record. It presents black metal in more symphonic, majestic and ambient way. Can you tell us some more info about your newest opus: where it was recorded, who was the producer and things like that?
“Frostbitten Pain” is my 5th and last album, self released and limited to 500 copies as a DIGICD. It was recorded, mixed and mastered at Liant Studios in the dead winter of 2009
Since I haven't got the chance to hear your previous full-lengths, and also I guess that many of our readers are still unfamiliar with Elffor, please can you compare your new album ''Frostbitten Pain'' with your previous records?
The style is the same as always but with a touch of depression and themes are darker and fast, this is the most worked on and completed album!
You have appeared on double CD compilation which was actually a kind of a tribute to Summoning. You've done one interesting version of ''Kortirion Among the Trees''. Why did you choose this particular track to cover? Do you also like some other covers from this compilation?
I chose "Kortirion Among the trees" because I knew nobody was going to play it hehehe... There are good bands and songs in the tribute!
Aside of Elffor you're member of yet another one band called Numen. If I am correct you are also vocalist there.
I am member of NUMEN (keys, accordion, chorals) and SUFFERING DOWN (Keys, vocals)
What about the lyrical side and concept of Elffor. You haven't printed the lyrics for ''Frostbitten Pain''. Why - was there any particular reason?
The first editions of my albums have no letters except the first album...all the NORTHERN SILENCE reissues have the lyrics..... There is no particular reason!
New album is still limited to 500 copies and it comes in very nice digi-pack version which you have released by yourself, but some of your previous issues where re-released for Northern Silence Productions. So, why did you choose to publish this new material on your own?
Hehe... interesting question.... I like to have full control of my music!
What about your personal influences and musical taste? Can you name few bands that have the major influence on you?
My biggest influence is life in the mountains away from civilization... Ambient, Old BM , Depressive BM are the styles that I listen to the most.
Elffor is still (and only) studio music project. Would you like to have one show or few live performances in the future?
ELFFOR never touched concerts.
...And for the closure I would like to thank you for this interview, answers and your time. I hope that you will continue to record such a great albums as ''Frostbitten Pain''.
An honor to answer the interview!
Thanks to all the dark souls who have supported my music since the early days!
TOTAL DARKNESS!!
