DUALITET OG ULVER

After the well done EP ''Asgards Fall'' and video clip ''Dualitet og Ulver’’ we have this chance to welcome the new record from Helheim. ''Heiðindómr ok mótgangr'' offers a new musical journey, a new experience of a fine mixture between Black and Viking Metal. Perhaps I can even dare to say that ''Heiðindómr ok mótgangr'' is the best ever record from Helheim that they have done so far. But, yeah, I cannot forget ''Jormundgand'' and ''Av Norrøn Ætt''!
Hello there! How are you doing? First I would like to give you my compliments for your latest album! It is well done piece of work! Are you satisfied by the reaction of media and fans so far when it comes to your latest record ''Heiðindómr ok mótgangr''?
Thanks. Oh, yes. Very much so indeed. We didn’t expect such a positive storm of reactions, but it seems like people like it just as much as we do.

How would you like to present your latest record from your own point of view? I noticed that there are strong musical and idea-links between your new record and your previous few releases? Do you agree?
Our best effort of course. Furthermore I would say that it’s our darkest album in many ways. An album that catches the winds of the past of Helheim as well as the present and the future, so I think we’ve managed to some extent to make THE Helheim album, but just almost. If total perfection’s reached then it’s pointless to continue to make albums.

Aside of noticeable Black and Viking influences there are some other influences in your music as well coming from progressive musical fields. It seems that these marks are giving some extra interesting details to your style.
May be so, but it’s not a deliberate choice to incorporate progressive parts, it just falls naturally, and to be honest I don’t find them very progressive either.

The mixture between Black Metal sort of vocals and those clean vocal parts seems to be perfectly suiting for your music style. Any comments about this?
I totally agree. This narrative kind of voice adds an aspect to the songs. It fits the lyrics as well. It’s about how to live a prosper life, a proud and knowledgeable one.

Already during the last year you have started the promotion of the new record by doing the video clip for the track ''Dualitet og Ulver''. I would like to give you my compliments for this video since it is a great one, probably one of the best Black Metal videos ever! So, can you give us any information where and how did you film this particular video?
Thanks, nice to hear. We filmed it in two days up in the mountains which are located in my backyard here in Bergen. We wanted a different music video where we didn’t want to stand around with our guitars in the middle of the woods trying to look cool or whatever. Same with extras. We didn’t want nice looking girls with blood dripping from their mouth, and then we rather use some old people to represent the ages and the end of it.

Are there any differences between the version of ''Dualitet og Ulver'' on previous EP ''Asgards Fall'' and the same song on the album?
Yes, the one on the album is longer

I am correct there are 3 parts of one story entitled ''Viten og Mot''. So, what can you tell us about these 3 tracks, for sure they are lyrically linked...and musically are they part of the same story?
There are 4. They are all about Håvamål, the words of the Wise (Odin). It’s about how to achieve different aspects in life and how to live a life according to obtain totality within oneself.

What can you say us now about the cover artwork done for the new record? Two ravens, a rune and the flames all around-what these signs are representing?
The rune, also known as the rune of Odin, represents him as well as protection. The ravens are the mind and memory. The flames represent the fire in man, the flame of riot.

If I am correct the new CD comes with the bonus DVD? I don't know if the regular issue have the bonus DVD but surly at least one special edition has this bonus DVD. So, please can you tell us something more about the material presented on DVD?
It’s a limited edition. It contains 2 concerts, one from the Inferno festival in 2009 and one from With Full Force festival in 2009. Both professionally filmed. And also 3 music-videos.

How do you look from this distance on your previous records especially on your first two albums ''Jormundgand'' and ''Av Norrøn Ætt''?
Still proud of them though I don’t listen to them anymore, or at least very seldom.

Also, how about the 3rd and 4th record ''Blod & Ild'' and ''Yersinia Pestis''? I could categorize these two records as a middle part of your discography?
That’s right. I don’t like “Blod & Ild”, but I find some stuff on “Yersinia Pestis” quite good. It was the album that led us down a different path.

I would like to thank you for this interview and your answer and I wish you all the best until next time!
Thank you and remember; Heathendom IS resistance!
