The Shrines of Ibez
Mythological Cold Towers are one of the most promising bands that are coming from Brazil. Of course, Sepultura is the most popular one, also for instance you have a few very popular bands when it comes to Death metal or Angra / Shaman in melodic Metal, but yet MCT are the best of Doom Metal. So far this band has released 4 full lengths and their latest piece of work is definitely their best and the most mature release: ''Immemorial'' surly has some quality to offer! The unknown paths of mystery, doom and darkness awaits!
Hello there! First of all, I would like to give you my compliments on your upcoming issue ''Immemorial''! It offers quality and enchanted, epic and dark atmosphere as well!
Thank you! We are very satisfied with your impression of our album and great review written in Metal Sound.
Your new record is ''Immemorial''. As a matter of fact this is your 4th full-length. So, it will be welcome if you can say few words about it to readers of Metal Sound.
The album was composed between 2008 and 2010 and we recorded it between September 2010 and January 2011. After recorded it, we decided to send an "advanced record" to some good labels. So the guys from the German label Cyclone Empire became interested in our music and we signed a contract for 3 albums. Cyclone Empire has done an excellent work distributing our music around the World. The result of that couldn’t be better; “Immemorial” has received mostly positive reviews.

''Immemorial'' is very cold and dark album as well. The production is indeed deep and the ambience very grim. So, what did you try to reflect with such doom-like record?
We wrote an album as a Doom Metal album has to be, in other words, cold, dark, mysterious, gloomy, nostalgic and epic. Those have been our primordial characteristics and the new album has consolidated them.
Can you compare ''Immemorial'' with your previous releases? What is the main difference between the latest issue and your previous ones? Can we even dare to say that ''Immemorial'' is the best effort that Mythological Cold Towers has done so far?
"Immemorial" is undoubtedly our best album. Perhaps its style is closer to our debut album "Sphere Of Nebaddon" released in 1996 due to its 90's doom metal atmosphere.
How would you like to label the music of Mythological Cold Towers? I mean, you have obviously some Doom metal influences, but also there are some elements from Death Metal and other extreme style of Metal as well.
As I said before, Mythological Cold Towers has its influence in the doom metal of the early 90's, in other words, cold and bleak Doom / Death with epic passages, but there are elements as dissonant riffs which aren’t commons within the genre. Those riffs deliver a wide range of harmonies in order to create a sound more powerful and complex.
Do you think that you have finally found your own style with ''Immemorial'', the style that will be the most suitable for Mythological Cold Towers?
Yes, we always wanted to keep the roots in the Doom Metal. Immemorial is the album which better defines our style, keeping our main characteristics such as the down tempo songs and obscure lyrics.
As I have already previously noticed, the production is indeed deep and it suits perfectly to your style of performing. So, where did you record the album? There in Brazil, or somewhere else?
We recorded in our own studio. The album was produced by our drummer Hamon. Nobody could have done it better than a band member. He can consolidate our music and makes it deeper.
What can you say us about your lyrical background when it comes to ''Immemorial''? The atmosphere is indeed ''heavy'' and doom-like. The apocalyptic feeling is obvious, as well. What kind of emotion do you want to express with the latest songs?
We believe that music and the lyrical part must always be together. The lyrics reflect the dark and mysterious feeling of our songs
In general, what can you say us about the thematic that Mythological Cold Towers explore? I am pretty sure that there are some strong links with occultism and Mayas and Aztec civilizations as well since you're coming from that part of the world.
Well, with Immemorial we closed the pre-Columbian trilogy. "Remote Meridiani Hymn" portrays the Pantheon and mysticism of the Incas, one of the first great civilizations in South America. "The Vanished Pantheon" portrays the Mesoamerican, Mayan and Aztec civilizations and their solar pantheon. "Immemorial" completes the trilogy; it portrays the legends and myths of the mythical lost city in the Amazon called Akakor, where several researchers and explorers disappeared trying to discover it.
Since this is your first interview for Metal Sound Magazine please can you add few words about your previous three records. As a matter of fact you are active on the metal scene since 1996 and your debut issue ''Sphere of Nebaddon''.
"Sphere Of Nebaddon" - the album which established the name Mythological Cold Towers in the Doom Metal scene. It sounds dense, cold, and epic.
"Remote Meridiani Hymn" - An album marked by an epic, barbaric and monumental atmosphere. There are more harmonies, keyboards, making the style of the Mythological Cold Towers more opulent and mysterious.
"The Vanished Pantheon" is characterized by its complexity and variation. Progressive arrangements due to the maturity in the songwriting, without losing the deep and epic feeling.
From 1996 to 2011, you've released and recorded ''only'' four albums so far. So, in 16 years you have published 4 full-lengths. The last one was released some 6 years ago. Why do you need so much time to compose and record records and songs? Are there any problems with the band's line up, or did you face some private problems as well?
We’re a band that does not necessarily have to release albums every year. We always prefer to release striking and surprising albums, even because we have to take years to write them. Consequently, it is always a mystery when we announce a new album. With the contract to Cyclone Empire we are going to record in a short period of time.
Well, I haven't been so familiar with the band so far, until your latest issue; please can you say us something about your live activities? Do you often have a chance to perform live there in Brazil? Or are you performing shows at all?
We rarely play live. We played in just few gigs in Brazil because unfortunately there isn’t an adequate infrastructure for neither local bands nor a large Doom Metal’s audience. However, we have much interest in playing in Europe. We know that we have many fans who appreciate our music there and would be an honor to give them epic and memorable concerts.
I would like to thank you for the answers and your time. ''Immemorial'' surly has potential to offer! And I am quite sure that followers of your music will be satisfied by the new record!
We also thank you. We hope to play someday in your country and to personally congratulate you for your support and admiration for our music. Total support to Metal Sound zine. Stay doomed!
