 GRIDARE IL TUO ODIORagazzi Italiani ha colpito la loro forza on their debut album both filled with excellent and brutal songs. ‘’Gore’’ is one of those death metal album that won’t be forgoten so easily. In interview below I’ve spoken with band’s bassist Joseph Tatangelo-Tato, who was very good-humored and very open interviewee. We spoken about their current release, then what name of the band means, and about a dozen of things that I thought that might be interested to ask him. Enjoy the Tato’s answers!
Saluti amici, che lavoro fai? Cosa sta succedendo in equipaggio Zora? Ciao Vlad thank you very much for this space we greatly appreciate your support bro! Zora all goes well, news coming live gigs and always extreme fun, which for us is the most important thing ‘’Gore’’ is your first album, what you can say about it? Also, would say something about recording process, time you spend on writing and composing, also, who was in charge for lyrics and music? Yes Gore is our first full-length cd, was born in 2007 we only now being published for some unexpected, but this is not a problem, the important thing for us is to have produced a work that fully expresses what we wanted shoot, a deep resentment and revulsion about the human race, solely responsible for all the shit that is killing this fantastic planet ... The composition of our songs is taking place in the our music room, everyone puts something of his own but above we give much space to the instinct, we do not like to plan the final result of one song, lose its naturalness, as we have never liked the 'too technical, music is passion instinct and vent, the only way we can have fun and make sense of what we do ‘’Gore’’ was released back in 2007, but now that you’ve signed for ‘’Bloodred Horizon’’ records, album has been re-released, can you tell me why is that, and why didn’t you go for another new (2nd) album? Also, are there any songs that are finished and prepared for next album? Yes, as I said this album was created in 2007 and was to be published by our old label, Malicious Intent Records, very great person and which still maintain good feeling, we have unfortunately delayed because of some problems of the label same that had to close, so we went to new label Bloodred Horizon Records , whom we thank very warmly, and finally let out Gore We are now ready to record a new full-length album, in this three years we have written several new songs and soon we will start work on this new upcoming work. In Serbian, ‘’Zora’’ means ‘’Dawn’’, but what your name means to you, and how did you came up with? Haha this is a question that many do, we noticed that everywhere the word Zora has a different meaning .... Zora was the dog of the boy who made our graphic works, was a dog very fierce, a pit bull trained to fight, was found dying on the street by Fabio and they took care making heal, but this dog will always retain his anger caused by the evil that had previously been made, ... For this reason we thought that Zora was the best name for the group that had just formed Song ‘’Pigs’’ is related to the politicians, but generally, how you looking upon politicians in Italy and their affairs, how much that affects on lives of normal citizens? Btw. That intro to the song was hilarious, as also the video is funny. In Italy apparently we have one so-called "democracy" but in reality we are enslaved by the pigs who reside in parliament and do nothing but live on our shoulders by charging us the costs of mismanagement that has been going on for decades ... the arrogance of these pigs painted us the eyes of the world as a people ignorant and racist, but in reality we are not at all ... the problem is that here in Italy we are few persons ready to really challenge to regain our dignity and enforce our rights .... Do you have plans for more video clips for this album, and of how much importance you think that videos are in these times? Well, what you saw (Enslaved by the pigs and A-narcos war) are not real video clips, they are simple montages, we done taking pictures and videos on the web, the main thing we point to is communication, the message that we want shoot, regardless of form .... yes I think sooner or later we shot some video clips in a more serious, while maintaining the same issues, but we say that this is not the priority. Your main lyrical concept is pointed toward the violence, hate, extremism, rebellion, chaos, but, How you reacting about this real chaos that’s going on streets of Greece, Thailand, Slovenia….? Also, what you can say about this homicides that are going on via social networks, more open public presence of maniacs, pedophiles, psychopaths, murderers, what you think, where lies the cause of the problem? It seems that world extremely going astray. About what happens in the countries you mentioned the only one thing that amazes me is that they only there happen ... is needed at a time and in a country where there is real need for change, is the story teaches us that ... this is not violence but is appropriate for his dignity and their future ... Instead the shit that every day we hear in the media does not make me think that the world is going to hell, because this whole explosion of such serious events is the consequence of increasingly free and easy movement of information , I believe that these sluts are always successful, the difference is that now it is easy to get to know said all.  Inspiration for lyrics, I suppose coming from things I asked you in question before? Day life tragedies, accidents, problems around us…? Of course, first of all is the result of experiences on our skin, we live in a place to shit, deep in southern Italy, where interpersonal war is daily ... of course we add all that media are slamming in our face day after day ... is a deep hatred and resentment against everything that oppresses freedom of thought and freedom to be themselves in a world ruled by hypocritical mask .... Gianluca Molè was in charge for the recording of ‘’Gore’’, are you satisfied how he did the work, and has something changed in production or mix, when you re-released album for ‘’Bloodred Horizon’’ records? Gianluca Mole is first and foremost an our brother, really, we are one big family here, we play with him in two other projects, Glacial Fear and A Buried Existence, we meet very long time and we share a passion for music in exact same way than to share many aspects of everyday life ... His study, Sound Farm Studio, is the best you can find here where we live, both for his great experience and preparation and on the instrumentation always to cutting edge, we did all our works by him and would not change him for any other studio, we are happy of its productions and there was never need to retouch anything, Bloodred Horizon Records and the label that the previous has always published the work without ever touching anything, we are fortunate to have someone so the earth forgotten by God like southern Italy ... When you compose and writing, is whole band involved in that process, and how you go with the shit, do you first write the titles, lyrics or you first go with the music? The texts of Zora in music are very important, which contain the gist of what is our purpose of making music, most of the pieces were created on the basis of those, of course can it happens that a riff comes first of the text, but during the process songwriting lyrics and music go hand in hand. You carrying the line ‘’Brutal Southern anti-cop’’, what’s the meaning of that, and how much you’re serious with those ‘’extremist hate’’ and such paroles? Well this is not make by us, our slogan is Scream your hate, an incentive to not keep anything inside and to shot out everything is not good, without fear and without ever compromising with anyone or anything, the vent is essential if you do not want to risk going mad or being subjugated in this fucking world of wolves . Where have you played live so far? Also, how local fans react on your stuff? We had the opportunity to sound a bit throughout Italy and also outside our borders .... one live gig gives you the opportunity to meet people with whom share the same passion and above all have the chance to scream directly in my face all you want to communicate ... we ahev meeting people always really friendly and well disposed towards our musical message, this is a wonderful thing fo us ... as long as there is always the possibility we will continue to reach every place and play our music, wherever it is …. Why did you chosen to go with the death metal music? What kind of bands have inspired you to start a death metal band? Is not a choice, I do not think you can choose what music to play, only the instinct to make you move, and depends on the background of plays that everyone has. Of course we always prefer death metal American-style and probably because this is the kind that comes closest to our mood ... when we closed the first time in the our music room was inevitable that it was out one death metal band. Except the drummer Ale, rest of the guys are into the some other projects, how do you managing to be in all of those bands? True, we all have or have had other projects, is not so difficult to work with other bands, you just really want it and plan accordingly. Some of these other bands are only studio-projects and with others we made also some live, but until now has never happened that things are impeded, and I do not think will happen, because between the groups to which we belong there is deep respect , and it moves according to the needs of each. an class="q">You only have MySpace page, do you planning to make an official site, or you’re satisfied with services from MySpace? well, until recently we had also an official site, but we have eliminated everything because now all netowrks like myspace and many others are much easier to see and to manage and contain all information necessary for all. All of your releases from your demos to the recent album and split are adorned by interesting cover-art, whit whom you’ve worked for the cover-art? The idea of what the cover should give part of ourselves, but the graphic work is by Fabio Bagalà, we have always been very satisfied with his work, because he will always to work in this aspect, it is one our really great friend so knows what we want ... Where did you get all those cute girls for promoting of your T-shirts, and, I sow one by name Laura Luna, but I couldn’t figure is that well known Spanish model Laura Luna, or is that just a girl with the same name? Hahaha bene questo non è del tutto vero, non sono la promozione ragazza, ma sono i nostri amici che ci inviano le loro foto per farci pubblicare, e lo facciamo con piacere .... la ragazza che dite, Laura, è uno di loro, non su modello spagnolo si parla, anche se potrebbe benissimo essere ... One more question related to girls, what’s that photo where Aria Giovanni hold one of your recordings? Is that some montage or…? Even that is a picture that we have got from an our friend, all the 'crazy pic " photo-album consists of photos that friends and friends are sending us, and others made by ourselves, is a collection of memories and souvenir by all brothers. You have hidden track on the record, can we talk about, it sounds loony. What’s the story behind? Well that ghost track is born by chance, during the editing of the disk, is the drum track of Humanimals sent backwards and filtered with a sinth, when we just hear it gave us a sense of unease, the atmosphere that we wanted to express in the entire disk .... What you think of music from your label mates like Cryfemal, Infinity, Sangius…do you like or have you listened to their music? Yes we have heard all groups of our label, and I must say I found them all very interesting, a bit distant indeed from the music that we propose, but it does not matter, they are all bands that play really well and know what they want ... we are really satisfied and happy to be with Bloodred Horizon Records, is a great family! When talking about ‘’ Bloodred Horizon Records’’, most of the bands that have signed for them are of black metal direction except you, who goes with that brutal death stuff. How did you get involved with ‘’ Bloodred Horizon Records’’, and have you played with any of the bands from the label? Of course, are you satisfied with work of ‘’ Bloodred Horizon Records’’? Of course, as I said before the other band play a different genre from ours, but this is absolutely not a problem for us ... we entered the contact by network, were immediately serious and kind, have met every deadline and continue to make a big promotion, is really perfect after the great experience with Malicious Intent Records , our previous label. Are you having any plans to shoot video clips? No for now we are thinking about the next album, after which we will probably a new video clip ... even though it is also likely that in the meantime we can do something like those made above, this is things that born from instincts, depending on what goes through your head, are not things that we plan. You will play at ‘’Sikelian Hell’’, that’s some festival right? I heard somewhere it is open air variant and it will be held on stadium, is that true? Also, how you managed to get on to that festival? It is one of the biggest festivals ever made in South Italy, and we're excited to be part of it ... we were contacted directly by the organizers, and certainly could not refuse this offer ... will be three days of hell. You had 4th member in the band, guitarist and vocalist by name Peppe Pascale, what happened with the guy, why he left the band? Are you still in contact with him? Of course we are always in touch with him, we play together also in another group, Glacial Fear ... it came out of the Zora project because he had not much time, so we decided together to take Flavio, a really great person and a great musician. What do you think of modern death metal approach that’s filled with lot of melody, groove and hooks, comparing to standard old-school approach, with grinding vocals and bulldozer-like guitar sounding? For me the true death metal is born in America, while the metal which is played in Europe I see it as another kind ... but ... these are clearly subjective judgments ... We listen much to the 'old school, always in our hearts, but able to keep those sounds with a touch of modernity is something very difficult in an era which is expected mostly to copy rather than to try ... Are you guys fans of Giallo horrors, and do you regret sometimes that movies in veins of (for example) Dario Argento, are simply vanished from the movie screens, and are replaced by some dull teen shit that’s full of cheap CGI crap? Sure Vlad, this world is our second passion, spend much time together to watch old and new films, in old yellow have an atmosphere much more impressive to me, but the law makes the market and the market demands special effects blood and monsters for this reason that are disappearing all the good old films. Also, are you into the comics of Sergio Bonelli editore, I mean, are you fans of some characters of that publisher? Well Flavio has a shop that deals with this, comics and cartoons from various objects horror and so on ... I personally do not read many comics, but between Mickey Mouse and Dylan Dog prefer the second hahaha. I suppose you guys are fans of football, what are your expectations about Italy on football world championship? Also, what you think on Gattuso’s and Balotelli’s rants and goofs they’re doing on terrain and in public? Ehmmm no, not interested in football ... I'm sorry. Looking at your pics on Myspace page, you look pretty much like some cool bunch, are there any funny or crazy stories you would like to share with our readers? Haha sure, when we are together we always have much fun, because we want just enjoy these moments that we know tomorrow will no longer be ... There are not particular histories, but sometimes when we talk amongst ourselves and we remember some trips reminded us of some really crazy things .... ! On your shows, do you play only your originals, or are there any covers and such? No, no, in our gigs we play our songs only, because take out one to make room for a cover seems a senseless thing ... in the previous album there was a cover, Main Frames Collapse, original by Schizo ( legendary italian band ), and also in the next cd will a cover, from one not metal band ... sometime even in our music room we played some covers, but these cover the way we play in interpreting our , but playing them in our own way, makes no sense to play them in the same way like do the parrots ... Where did you played so far, I mean outside of Italy and such…? Siamo stati a San Pietroburgo ( Russia ) al Petrogrind fest ed a Tirana, ( Albania ), e da settembre in poi sono previste altre date in Europa ... esperienza fantastica, quando varchiamo i confini italiani ci rendiamo conto che posto di merda è il nostro .... questo perchè il metal viene vissuto alla pari di qualsiasi altro genere, quanto meno sotto l' aspetto dell' organizzazione ... entrambe le volte siamo stati contattati direttamente dagli organizzatori, perchè noi non facciamo parte di nessuna agenzia di booking e nè abbiamo intenzione di entrane a farne parte ... in Italy most of the agencies are just big shit ... You had a split release with the band Sickening back in 2005, and last year you had four split release with bands like Deathcrush, Land of Hate and Smashed…how you came up to be on one place with these bands and what was the purpose of those releases to gather you on one place? Well a split cd with another band must suppose a relationship of respect and friendship with the group itself, the split is simply the culmination of everything, and it was thus for the split "4 way or creams your hate", made by 4 brothers band ... about the split with Sickening was something desired by the label that suggested this, then we got to know and play with Sickening, and we did not absolutely repenting of having done that split ... By name of Zora exists one Italian Glam/Rock band, have you heard of them, and do you mind about the fact you have the same name? I suppose, you haven’t any legal problems on name usage so far? Yes I know that band, but we never had any problems, until now, if they make some problem about we fucked it and still keep our moniker ... Besides music what other occupations you got? Sure, it's necessary, is essential in Italy can not hope to live playing metal, we need a job to keep this passion, and luckily we have the chance to earn their daily bread. Are there any possibilities for your ‘’Gore’’ album to be seen as a LP or Cassette? No I do not think, though I myself am very attached to and supports lp mc and I am happy that in general there is a return to this type of production, but for now we have not planned out in this way. What are the next plans for Zora? The next projects are live gigs and festivals from here to October and especially work to the new cd, we believe that starting this August ... naturally when it is ready you will have it !
