NIGHTWISH

EXIT Novi Sad - 10.07.2008

This was the first time for all of us to see Nigthwish alive. They’ve never come to Serbia before and, to be honest, we are not such dedicated fans, but anyhow, we found the newest album indeed interesting, since Tarja left the musical machine named Nightwish. I was a little afraid how Anette will sound, but it was, more or less, good in the end. They actually played only ten songs, which is usual for festival appearances. In the very beginning the sound was a little bad, but after 2 or 3 songs it had become better, but still, the guitar sound was weak in some way. They played mostly tracks from the current album Dark Passion Play, including the opening, 15 minute-long The Poet and the Pendulum. The show actually started with one of the video singles from the new material, the hit track Bye Bye Beautiful, and of course, they presented to fanatic Serbian public (there were also many little girls, obviously with their parents) the 1st video-single Amaranth. Also, there were a few older tracks from Tarja-era, for example the closing one Wish I Had An Angel. Although the public was, more or less, enthusiastic, they went totally mad on Wish I Had An Angel and clearly it seems that this has become the ultimate hit for all Nightwish fans. Probably the most interesting detail of this live performance was pyrotechnics, fireworks etc. Indeed a great job on the organiser’s side! Maybe the only thing that was weird was Anette’s clothing. You know, it was very hot throughout the whole day, and Nightwish have started in the evening, but it was still hot and Anette has entered the stage wearing some wool clothing, so one could clearly see as water dropped from her face. Perhaps she thought it was cold in Serbia. So the final conclusion is that the show was good, but of course, we’ll wait for them to once more arrive to Serbia and present us with the whole of their show. And in the meantime, we will witness the first comeback strike of gothic-romantic queen Tarja in October this year in Belgrade.
