GRAVE DIGGER/ALESTORM/TALETELLER
Zagreb Boogalo - 04.02.2009.
Well, this was the very first time for me to witness Grave Digger live, so I was indeed enthusiastic about this happening. And besides Grave Digger there was also Alestorm - arising Napalm Records stars This night has actually turned out to be very cool. When I’ve just arrived, the opening band Taleteller has already began to play. There wasn’t so much people around and I was also very busy with some stuff and meeting some people so I was there only on one song of Taleteller. They sounded ok, but nothing special indeed. Already at that time, everybody started to talk about Alestorm, and when they have appeared on stage people became crazy. Perhaps around 200 or maybe more fans gathered around the stage and watched their show in its entirety. It was really interesting to see this band, especially because they’re good in making crazy and wild atmosphere. The only thing that was bad was the short duration of their show, but on the other hand they have only one full-length. Of course, the one who was there could hear songs such as “Captain Morgan’s Revenge”, “Set Sail and Conquer” etc. Absolutely nice show! And after almighty Scotsman Alestorm, the Grave Digger veterans have arrived on stage. I was actually in the front line, just near them, because I had the photo pass and I tried to shot as many pictures as I could. Well, I was feeling indeed great when I saw that Chiss appeared on the stage and the same happened with al fans around. They started concert with “Ballad of a Hangman”, probably the most prominent track form their latest effort. The next one was “Valhalla”, one more song that made people to head bang all around. The show continues with other good songs, but I think that this time they have also tried to play some forgotten, yet good songs. Of course, the main focus was on new album. Among many played tracks one could hear all-time-hits as “Lionheart”, “The Roundtable”, “Knights of the Cross”, “Dark of the Sun” or ultra-popular song “Rebellion”. After the three-track encore, the whole show was closed with the old-timer tune “Heavy Metal Breakdown”. Chis & co. unleased unbelievable energy on stage during the whole concert so wild support from the fans was expected. The sound was mainly good, but there were some problems. Members were very active on stage and this is for all compliments. In contrast of their age, they behaved wild and indeed enthusiastic. Also, there was constant contact with the fans, who tried just to touch Chis or any other member who was close to them. The only thing that went bad was the number of visitors. Ok, there were more then 500 fans, but I think they could come in larger numbers. Perhaps this is only because there were too many concerts already scheduled around this one. I finished this nice evening chanting with Christopher Bowes (Vocalist/Keyboardist) of Alestorm.
