ALCEST-LES VOYAGES DE L'ÂME 10/1014.01.2012.
Here in Serbia we have a saying that can be roughly translated as „you can tell how the day will look like by the morning“... and if we apply that to the new Alcest, we have one outstanding year ahead of us! Released on Jauary 6th, „Les Voyages De L'Âme“ (translated as „journeys of the soul) represents third Alcest's full length and this is indeed one journey as the title says, the journey of Neige's soul into the lands so beautiful it is hard to believe. I have recently read an interview with Neige where he announced that he will slowly put black metal elements behind him and „Les Voyages De L'Âme“ is the definite proof of this as the album represents strongest foray from black metal that this band has ever done. True, one can sporadically spot some blasting sessions but even those don't sound grim / brutal at all but rather melacholic and somehow counterpositioning the dreamy atmosphere that this record possess (check „Beings of light“ for the proof of my words). The majority of the music is based on shoegaze, post rockish and atmospheric elements – the songs flow withount any rush or pushing forward but instead compositions develop naturally like they are unfolding before your eyes. It is clearly evident that Neige is becoming more and more experienced musician as time passess, maybe it is linked with some extensive touring that Alcest has done in the previous period or something else but anyway one can spot that the man is just getting better in his craft. Maybe some of you will say that this album is nothing new for Alcest but closer inspection reveal whole new world that is happening here and repetition of none of two previous albums is present. I must admit that I feel sorry that this album is not release somewhere at the end of spring / beginning of summer as its vibe completely fits that period of the year – warm, full of colors, rich but yet in the same time with underlying sense of melancholy. Song titles like „Beings of light“ or „Summer's glory“ are only the proof of my words. Neige has done some of his most beautiful melodies here (maybe the best ones) – guitars sound like they are talking, not merely playing them and they are so innocent that they will make you feel like a small child in front of wonders of the world, so serene I am at loss for words here... All in all, it seems that Alcest is unstoppable now as they have released their third masterpiece in the row, the album that I cannot find one fault even if I try. Brilliant work.

GOLDEN DAWN: Return to Provenance Marvelous and occult !06.01.2012.
Golden Dawn is one of my favorite bands when it comes to Austrian black metal scene. Since their early beginnings, and early my teenage days, I am patently following Golden Dawn. ''The Art of Dreaming'' was a spectacular issue (at least to me). Somehow it marked my ''childhood''. As a matter of fact, strangely indeed, it happen that it was one of my first ever record coming from fields of black metal...I got it though a tape trading!
But, though time I completely lost a clue to this band. I mean, I got intp in some other groups and, after all Golden Dawn wasn't so active. Years after I discovered some of their records like '' A Solemn Day'' from 2000.
And finally after 9 years comes the new record ''Return to Provenance''. Well, I can only say that this is Dreamlord's best release after legendary opus ''The Art of Dreaming''. Definitely it's heavier comparing to other record but yet there is a symphonic touch in the music. Without any though I can label ''Return to Provenance'' as black metal material. From the opening track ''Nameless' starts the voyage of black metal riffs and indeed harsh vocals, but yet here and there you'll be able to find some symphonic parts as well, especially as the songs are developing towards the end. I must note that Dreamlord has improved himself with clever kind of composing. The record sounds indeed grim and very dark (and deep as well). Tracks follow, more or less, the same structure: each song starts with black metal riffing, but later it develops and become more symphonic, but yet keeping in the same time this grim feeling and atmosphere. The spirit of occult is alive in every tune of the latest record. Everything is pulsing with the occult atmosphere and memorable dream-like symphonies.
I really like and take this particular record as one ''entire'' and ''whole'' story so I don't want to separate any song from it. Obviously I adore some titles as the title track or ''Dark Illuminations''. Both titles have some extra choir arrangements -another moment which makes the atmosphere more melodious and occult as well.
The production is also perfectly done: it's rawer but still it keeps the bombastic feeling! I would like also to note that it is not a usual type of production where everything sounds the same. Somehow the music sounds ''alive''.
You will clearly needed some ''extra'' time to enter the realm of Golden Dawn and their new record, but once you entered the forgotten realm of darkness you will become a true lover of their art and music!

DRAGONLAND: ''Under the Grey Banner''-Symphonic Metal Masterpiece!! 29.12.2011.
Well, this is the 5th issue from Dragonland and truly speaking and observing one could only say that this is their best effort (and the most mature) so far. One thing is for sure they have reached the higher level of art with their latest issue! With very complex song writing and with indeed pompous and bombastic epic approach they can now walk in hand with masters of (symphonic) power and melodic metal. To make it short: (over night) they become my favorite band alongside with such a great bands as Blind Guardian and Rhapsody of Fire.
Dragonland are obviously fantasy-based power metal band with symphonic and and very (catchy) melodic approach. For instance if you are a fan of Rhapsody of Fire then for surly you'll also like this band as well. Then, again if you are into HammerFall or FireWind I cannot imagine that one could dislike Dragonland !
''Under the Grey Banner'' is perfect record. I mean, here everything stands in its own place. From colossal production to each and every single tune. Everything is ''pulsing'' with awesome ideas and bombast god-like tunes!
From the very beginning with pompous opening to the very end I adore this unbelievable issue. The music is well composed and the songs are indeed complex ones. Olof Mörck & his fellow companions made one outstanding record full of fantastic passages and furious moments. But, yet although that the songs are complex one could notice always this melodic and indeed catchy vibe wherein each tune and each track are perfectly crafted jewel!
The music scales from speed metal riffing to more ambient pieces. It deepens from a track to track. The opening track could tell you the story about the entire record. ''A Thousand Towers White'' is also a fine example for a perfect and well composed symphonic metal track. One could notice, that both, guitars and keyboards are playing the leading role. In one moment you could be caught in fantastic flames of indeed passionate solos and riffing and then, in the another keyboards will lead you to the forgotten lands, myths and legends.
Aside of leading vocals which were done by Jonas Heidgert, one could noticed opera-like male and female voices as well. Female vocals are indeed nice just like in the closing track ''Ivory Shores''. Male opera-voices are suiting music perfect! There are some instrumentals and ''inner'' track like 'Thane of Bones'' (only keyboards and operatic vocals). These ''inner'', opening and closing titles are the ''link''details...which hold the entire record in on great piece.
One of the ''key'' moments of this issue is that dramatic approach and feeling which is pulsing throughout the material. It will keep you awaken all the time once you enter the realms of Dragonland.
''Under the Grey Banner'' is a record with colossal production, amazing symphonic passages crowned with fantasy catchy moments. There is no doubt it is one of the best and the most effective releases in 2011!
Unbelievable and remarkable!
Recommended! Fantasy awaits!

IRON SAVIOR ''The Landing''-Dramatic and marvelous! 29.12.2011.
Piet Sielck's Iron Savior are definitely one of the ''key bands'' when it comes to German power metal scene. Since the early beginnings of their career they offered us more then perfect albums and marvelous songs. I've grown up with his music. With SF based lyrics probably one could say that Iron Savior one of the most important bands when it comes to SF inspired heavy metal.
Piet & co. have just released their 7th opus ''The Landing'' and it turned out to be one of the best albums when it comes to this particular German troop. Iron Saviour always provided us with great albums, but, ''The Landing'' is beyond any words. A masterpiece for itself. A man and machine in one! As a matter of fact, I think that this is one of the heaviest record when it comes to Iron Saviour but, in the same time, it is the catchiest. ''The Landing'' is a remarkable mixture between heaviness and melodiousness.
The album starts with one spectacular and very intensive instrumental interlude. And then ''The Savior'' will leave you without any breathe, without any comments... A perfect song to begin such an intensive saga and effective record. The track contains in the same time very catchy refrain, melodic vibe but also it is very bombastic and furious as well. If one track sound represent the entire latest issue then ''The Saviour'' is surly that one. Actually, ''The Saviour'' could stand as a ''true'' Iron Saviour's anthem. No doubt, one of the best songs ever composed by ''Master Piet''.
The songs are relatively close to each others musically and composing-wise but every single track has it's own vibe. ''Starlight'' and ''March of Doom'', for instance, these both songs has this typical power metal approach done in typical Iron Savior's own way! There are some ballads as always. Just like in the case with ''Before the Pain''...and, of course, not to forget metal-hymns as ''Heavy Metal Never Dies'' and ''R.U.Ready''
Observing from song to song, from ''Starlight'' to ''Halls of Heroes'' one could easily ''catch'' this Piet's unique way of composing. He always goes strait forward. His songs always have this dramatic approach with hymn-like choruses and remarkable solos. No doubt Piet is one of the best guitars at the metal scene. He is ''the master of heavy metal''. Moreover he has delivered more perfect vocals, perfectly suiting the music. Sometimes harsher, sometimes cleaner, but, all in all, he is master of the art, in the very essence of creativeness.
The production is perfectly suiting the music. Actually everything is standing on its own place without any problems. The production stands for powerful one with polished-like effect.
As a matter of fact one could drown a parallel between the new record of Iron Savior and the latest record from Savage Circus (a side project of Piet) and, yes, there are some obvious links here and there. I mean, if you like the music of Iron Savior you'll adore Savage Circus as well.
''The Landing'' is definitely one of the highlights of 2011 especially when it comes to power metal. I think that all lovers of power metal could be more then delighted by this release! I am so glad that Piet has come back with Iron Savior after 4 years of silence and I really hope that he will continue his ever-lasting quest!
Dramatic and marvelous!

RHAPSODY: Exclusive Interview with LUCA TURILLI!23.12.2011.
After the announcement of the friendly split of RHAPSODY OF FIRE , the birth of the new LT’s RHAPSODY band and the announcement of the new album coming out in June 2012, Luca Turilli released his first official and exclusive interview to Markus Wosgien, Head of Promotion of the German record company Nuclear Blast.

MW: Hi Luca, thank you for the interview and for your time. Here we go with my first question: after the official split of RHAPSODY OF FIRE a lot of rumors about the same split spread around the net. Do you want to tell or precise something about it?

LT: Hi Markus, it’s a real pleasure for me to exchange some words with you and to give some information to our fans at the same time. First of all let me tell you that Alex (Staropoli) and I had a lot of fun while hearing some comments following the announcement of the friendly split of RHAPSODY OF FIRE. In particular I heard the comments of some people imagining a lot of weird things or thinking that I was the one who left the band because of this or that reason. Honestly this is really absurd and nothing is more untrue.

The only reality is that in the end of 2010 Alex and I, together - and I underline: together -, agreed that after FROM CHAOS TO ETERNITY (the 10th official RHAPSODY OF FIRE album which closed the cycle of releases related with our saga), we would have went on with our careers separately. This because after 20 years of great and unique collaboration the feeling, while working together, was not the same anymore and so, due to the strong respect we have for each other, we decided to take this important decision.

We also agreed everything about the way the band split and the fact of keeping for both the name RHAPSODY, in respect of all the unique efforts and the personal economical investment we both made in these years to make this name stronger and stronger in the market. So, again, all was decided really in a friendly way between two people respecting themselves at all levels. Therefore no conspiracy theories or something like that ha ha, instead just the honest will of proceeding separately in order to find new artistic stimulations. Be also sure that there won’t be any competition between the two RHAPSODY bands, we are too old for those kind of games ha ha. I love Alex and want for him the best possible success. I also take the chance of wishing the best to the new members of RHAPSODY OF FIRE: TOM HESS and ROBERTO DE MICHELI und OLIVER HOLZWARTH. They are great people and ultra-skilled musicians, a sure guarantee of great music at the highest artistic levels for all the fans of Alex and Fabio’s band!

MW: Let’s speak about your new album. What can you tell us about it?

LT: Honestly, this album is very important for me, Alex Holzwarth, Patrice and Dominique and personally it is the one I always dreamed to record. The basic composition process lasted around 5 months. In this period of time I worked at the rhythm of 12-14 hours per day and, while very hard because very demanding mentally and spiritually, this was one of the most rewarding sessions of composition of my whole life. It rarely happened I had so much fun playing the guitar, the keyboards or my beloved piano and creating original classical parts, cinematic interludes, orchestrations and all the rest.

Now all the songs are ready and I am actually in the process of arranging everything. As you know I don’t hire external people to orchestrate the music but I do all by myself writing the music for each section of the orchestra, the choirs etc. and this sometimes can be a very long and hard process stealing a lot of time and energy ha ha.

I can not deny that this is a very ambitious album because of the investment, artistic vision etc., and all the people working on it, NUCLEAR BLAST included, are thinking the same. That’s why in the upcoming months of intensive studio work I want to go on dedicating myself night and day to it, without thinking to anything else. The production of the album just started and ALEX HOLZWARTH recorded most of his drum parts already. I will release more news about the album production, month after month, from my new website (http://WWW.LTRHAPSODY.COM), starting from the end of January 2012.

MW: Speaking about the production, is it true that for your new LT’s RHAPSODY album you changed your working team completely?
LT: Yes, after many years of work in Wolfsburg at the court of our friend SASCHA PAETH, I decided to start this new artistic adventure with a different team of people. Sascha and the other friends of the Gate Studio (Miro, Olaf, Robert, Simon etc.) are a winning team and their help in the past was really important for RHAPSODY. But it’s since many years already that Alex and I took the productions in our hands becoming producers of our own albums, despite Sascha remaining always fundamental as engineer and mixer man. His mixes will remain legendary and our list of thanks will be never long enough for all the professional contribution he gave. All the years of work, fun and sufferance in the Gate studios of Wolfsburg will surely remain unforgettable and are carved in our heart.

For LT’s RHAPSODY and the new band adventure I decided to change the studio and the main man behind the console. We are now recording the new album at the BACKYARD STUDIO of Kempten, Germany. Our new engineer and main mixer man is the same owner of the studio and his name is SEBASTIAN ROEDER, the person who worked for RHAPSODY OF FIRE in the last worldwide tour making real miracles while mixing our music live. Apart from being a talented engineer he is a great person and he shares with us the love for this style of music. To resume, the new album will be produced by me as usual, while Sebastian will take care of the engineering, mixing and mastering process.

MW: What can you tell us about the new singer?

LT: As you can imagine this will be one of the most important news to be given in the upcoming months but for the moment we prefer to keep all top secret. Speaking about singers please allow me to say a few words about OLAF HAYER, singer and talented voice of LUCA TURILLI, my old solo band. The truth is that, as many people could already imagine, I stopped my solo activity as LUCA TURILLI definitely, willing to dedicate myself to LT’s RHAPSODY at full time. That’s why I want to publicly thank Olaf for the fundamental contribution he gave to our solo albums. All the 3 albums of the trilogy entered the charts establishing some important records and this was possible mainly because of my friend Olaf. Who knows, maybe sooner or later we’ll still have the chance to work together, never say never.

MW: And what about the future plans of LT’s RHAPSODY?

LT: Well, the most important thing I can tell you is that our tour agency ALL ACCESS is actually working hard and preparing a worldwide tour. Considering that the new album will be released in June 2012, the plan is to start the tour a couple of months later in order to promote it at the four sides of the world. It will be an infinite pleasure for me, Alex, Patrice and Dominique to meet all our old and new fans once again and to play in front of them the new LT’s RHAPSODY songs and the old RHAPSODY/RHAPSODY OF FIRE hits. Surely there will be also a couple of surprises for the one who liked my old solo albums too!

MW: Thank you Luca and all the best to you, Alex, Dominique and Patrice for the start of this new artistic adventure.

LT: Thanks to you and to the friends of Nuclear Blast for believing so much into it!
