POARTă DE DINCOLONEGURA BUNGETCode666 EPAlthough that Negura Bunget has some major line up issues in the last time, fans couldn’t complain really as we are treated with string of their releases as in just around a year we got "Maiestrit" (re-recording of „Maiastru sfetnic“), new full length, live CD/DVD and now here we present to you the latest EP of Romanian mages entitled „Poartă de Dincolo”. This release marks the end of band’s long and fruitful collaboration with Code666 and it is nice that they haven’t done the release just to get out of contract as “Poartă de Dincolo” (translated roughly as “gate from above” or “carrying from the other side”) features all the elements that are familiar in Negura’s sound. Now, I must admit that break up of the classic line up left the mark on Negura as I didn’t feel that “Vîrstele Pămîntului” was on the same, extremely high level as their older stuff but I am happy to find out that “Poartă de Dincolo” finds Negura bettering their craft once again, I guess that it is probably the result of new guys in the band getting to know each other better or maybe it is because the EP format is shorter by definition so the quality is distilled into this 28 minutes. Anyway, the general story is not changed at all as “Poartă de Dincolo” features traditional Transilvanian Black Metal art in instantly recognizable Negura way, the songs are swallowing you into their world with high doses of atmosphere, and especially “Frig in oase”, the ambiental third track, and the closing title track with good use of clean vocals will enwrap you first, while the first two are longer and more epic so you will need a few spins to get into them. To keep it simple, this is one more good release of Negura Bunget and now it will be interesting to find out on which new label they will land. Trifunovic Slobodan (-) |
