EXIT WOUNDS

No Escape Records CD

This is debut album of Polish band Exit Wounds, and it is ultra violent Grindcore done mostly the old way. This release has 30 songs and it lasts only for about 23 minutes, some would say that it is short but I think that it is the perfect lenght for such an intense release (just like those good old Assuck albums). For the most part, Exit Wounds are blasting like there’s no tommorow, without any concern for musical rules or anything similar, thus gaining the total anarchistic melting pot of noise attractive only to ears of the initiated. Most songs revolve around a pair of riffs wrapped in berzerk rhythms, and they are certainly strong enough to carry the composition. They have dual vokill attack, one of them is screaming and the other is more of a spoken word (but very sinister for that matter). The general psycho pace of the release is broken down by couple of more crusty numbers like “Hand Of The Dictator” and “Wipe Out Frustration”, which gave a nice touch of variety and old school hymnical appeal to overall impression. Also, they made instrumental track “The Hook” which is a bit longer, around 3 minutes (that is very long in a world of Exit Wounds, believe me) and it is slower number which features eerie samples, and it serves its purpose to gave you the time for false hopes and to gasp for your last breath before they strike one final, lethal punch with last track. One thing that has to be mentioned is very sharp production that gave extra bonus to frenzied feel of the music (think Phobia). The artwork of the release is nihilistic and gray and it fits to submissive and destructive feel of the band. The also have 2 cover tracks here : Retaliation – “Things Will Never Change” and Haymaker – “Another Shit Movie”. These lads are most certainly not reinventing the Grind wheel, but with their righteous attitude they managed to create the release that will most certainly appeal to fans of devastative musical expiriences. Very brutal and very recommended.
