MONTE LILIORUM

PEČESS

Werewolf Promotions CD

This project gathers some well known names of Czech black metal scene, but main charcter behind this release is Pečess itself, who's been in charge of most of the albums creation. Pečess represents some sort of mix between melodic black metal, folk and even rock idioms, with use of typical blacksih screamful vocals and those of folkish alike. Album itself is nothing special, and it could have been much, much better. Material have some nice parts here and there, but overall its too much repetative and flat. Use of drum machine and it's sounding is hidious and it paints material to sound much plastic, and as I said before, flat. Element which album lack is energy and tempo variation...production contains much of the delays and empty spaces, which makes material pretty much unsaid and hollow, thus many details could have been incorportated in sounds core to make album full and complete. Guitar work is thin, and riffs aren't convincive, but generic and way to closed for any more demanding developments. Also, it's very strange, that legends like Blackie and Lord Morbivod couldn't affect on Pečess to create more colored and energetic material...With material like this, I honestly doubt that Pečess can attract much of those that consumes this kind of black/folk metal. It just containts more misess than hits. Couple of highlights: ''Az listy zrudnou'' and ''Smutna laska rytire Licka z Lilce''.
