WOLFHEADWOLFHEADDoomentia Records CDFirst album for Spain’s doom band Wolfhead is good release but besides the doom, that is band’s main musical course, in their approach also could be found some stoner rock and grunge elements. Their performance is filled with many layers, musically, members are very skilled and material itself is colorful and rich. Arrangements are carrying a lot of atmospherical details, deep and almost psychedelic passages, crossed with doom colored guitars and John Bush/Ozzy-like vocals, mixed with many choruses and vocal harmonies (!!!). Besides that approach, there are a couple of songs that are just clear stoner rock numbers, straight and crunchy, alcoholically fueled and dirty in atmosphere and performance. Whole material possess a lot of good and innovative, unique moments, that makes Wolfhead as something very fresh and new under the doom metal skies. How innovative they are in performance, at some point you’ll find yourself that you can’t grab the band nor for the head or its tail, or to be more simple, from song to song, you’ll just won’t be able to guess in which kind of mood will band kick in with the next track. Lyrically, band covers the mythical and epic topics, and to their approach and performance, it is something that suits them very nice. Besides, standard instruments, like guitars, drums, basses, keys, band uses even harmonica and mouth harp in some moments, which gives more strangeness to the record, and makes a question, what the hell these guys are doing? This is just more than enough for one debut… great shit, if you ask me! Only thing that I’m afraid of is that, if band showed much of their potential on their first effort, how much strength and freshness will they have on and for the next release?
