MASS INSANITY - The Hypochrist

THE HYPOCHRIST

MASS INSANITY

Brewery Distro CD

I am always opened for some new Polish Death Metal hordes as we all know that certain level of quality is always present when you are dealing with them, it’s almost a shame to be from Poland and to be crappy DM band! And really, even the most underground troops from mentioned region that I have faced possessed something cool and interesting and one could immediately see that the band has put some hard work and dedication into their craft; and my latest discovery Mass Insanity is no exception. After three demos Mass Insanity presents their art to metal world in form of their debut new album “The hypochrist” which offers a bit different sound comparing to what we usually receive from Poland – either deathrashing Vader alikes or black death bands more in Behemoth vein. Instead, Mass Insanity are here with more brutal take on Death Metal which sounds decidedly American so main points of reference are bands like Suffocation and Dying Fetus with their slamming brutality, maybe even Malevolent Creation could be mentioned when the guys get thrashier here and there, and I can even spot some old school Swedish touches but those are really in minority and used just to enhance the overall sound picture. Band members are efficient enough on their instruments for this demanding kind of playing and the production is absolutely suited for the band so, as I mentioned, some basic quality criteria for this music are met. My main problem with “The hypochrist” is that I have heard this done by a lot of bands, and done better I must say, so Mass Insanity are not breaking any boundaires but instead are happy to play the music they love. They are good enough at that but they should be hellishly good to reach the top of this scene – I wouldn’t say single bad word about this album, but it’s not exciting at all either; Mass Insanity are now on the level of good opening acts that will get you in the mood for big ones and will not be laughed at so hopefully they will grow from there...
