ULTIMATE INSTINCT

INTESTINE BAALISM

No Colours Records CD

You must be one pretty ignorant prick if you don’t comprehend the hidden treasures of Japanese metal scene. The bands that instantly come to mind are Sabbat / Metalucifer and their kamikaze attack and Sigh with their bizarre soundscapes, and Intestine Baalism should be rightfully mentioned right beside them. They were formed way back in 1991. and during their career they were often plagued by line up changes, but even the fact that they are so far away from main Metal streams didn’t prevent them to gain strong following in the Underground with their 2 full lenghts. “Ultimate Instinct” comes after the 5-year hiatus which fortunately haven’t left any trace on their sound. In case you don’t know, Intestine Baalism plays old school brand of Death Metal, very much Swedish influenced. That fact is even underlined by recognizable buzzing “a-la Sunlight” production, so you would have hard time noticing their homeland in case you didn’t know it. Their brand of DM is not over-the-top aggressive, but it is horribly heavy with its monstrous riffs so it crushes even more than any modern “br00tal” crap. They also include large doses of infectuous hooks and melodies, so the overall result can remind you from time to time on Dismember circa “Massive Killing Capacity” or older At The Gates. Songs are mainly in faster tempos so the music has that driving character, you won’t notice that the album has finished. Also you can trace some Blackish and Heavy notes here and there, added just to make the mix more variable and interesting. The album is apparently conceptual, but since I don’t have the lyrics included with my promo, I don’t know about what the hell is mr Serj growling here, but nevermind – the music speaks for itself. If you are into old school DM, you are strongly advised to check out the “Ultimate Instinct”. Very good.
