WER WIND SAET
SALTATIO MORTIS
Napalm Records CD
Ok, here’s another one coming from German speaking ground and sounding, more or less, like infamous In Extremo. I am surely not so into this kind of folk-dance metal-rock sounds enriched with German vocals but albums like ’Wer Wind Saet’ sound completely ok for my taste. It’s a kind of melodic music mainly based on various aunthentic instruments and then mixed with some metal or rock riffs. The production is indeed fine one, as well as the artwork which looks just fine. The music has mainly some medieval influences; there are two types of vocals - male and female. Male vocals are more constant but female are more focusing on refrains and some parts which band would like to take from the whole concept and then enrich with fine girls’ chanting. Although everything is ok - way of composing, using of some exotic and acoustic instruments, something is definitely missing. If you think that guitars are totally in background, you are then on the wrong way. They are pretty constantly present with few solos and leading melodies appearing here and there. So if you are into folk and metal, you will probably find yourself in this record. For my taste, it’s not a bad one, but I am more focused on soon arrival of the new Hollenthon when it comes to new Napalm’s releases.
