I WALK AMONG YOUICED EARTHSPV CDIt’s a little bit controverse since Matthew Barlow returned into the flock of Iced Earth, mainly because of his statements after the 11th, September 2001. when he sworn to leave the music and singing for good and to concentrate to help people of America against terrorism (yeah, right!). After a while, Matt has been sought in power band Pyramaze and as in that moment Iced Earth couldn’t manage to gain such momentum with Owens as they could with Barlow, Schaffer decided to bring back Barlow, as he was in metal waters again. And here it is, Matt is back on vocals and new single, entitled ‘’I Walk Alone’’ is released. What to say, Matt maybe wasn’t loyal to his statement toward the music, but on the other hand, it’s good to hear him again in Iced Earth. Excellent intro into something that will lead into the sequel of ‘’Framming Aramgeddon’’ story. New, title song is standard Iced Earth tune that evocates ‘’Something Wicked…’’ and ‘’Horror Show’’ days, and it’s very catchy songs, containing easy galloping riffs from Jon, followed by Matthew’s melodic vocal lines, crossed with chorus voices. ‘’Sethian Massacre’’ is song from the actual album, but with Matt on vocals, naturally. Standard again, not much different from original version with exceptions of Barlow’s voice. Closing song ‘’The Clouding’’ is another new track and it’s a ballad with mid-tempo passages in Deep Purple/Judas Priest vein. This song gain much of emotions and some deeper feelings that with Tim’s voice maybe wouldn’t be achieved, as Tim has much stronger and concrete voice than Matthew, but also he lack of softer singing style, which is the plus for the Matt, as he excellently vocally painting this tune, and with no overreacting you can say that Matthew’s voice has bring much into the soul of this song. Production is same as on the ‘’Framming Aramgeddon’’, so there’s no need to make philosophy about that here. Anyway, new single of Iced Earth with Matt back in the bunch is before us, and you can say that there is that old magic in the air, again, and all we have to do is to wait for the new full-length released. And to mention at the end, this single will also be released as I-tune exclusive edition release, containing one more song, that will be another one from ‘’Framming…’’ album, ‘’A Charge To Keep’’.
