CARNIVAL OF THE LOST SOULS
NOX ARCANA
www.MonolithGraphics.com CD
“Explore an old-fashioned carnival that harbors living nightmares and sinister secrets” - that’s what info sheet says about ’Carnival of the Lost Souls’ so I can only approve that the music really stands for some of the most bizarre melodies ever. There’s a kind of evil/obscure carnival atmosphere here. Slow melodies and piano passages are the standard derivates when it comes to this release while, here and there, appear malicious smiling voices and rumors. Probably the most interesting and sinister title is track 9 ’Spellbound’. There is actually some singing there, which sounds indeed creepy and eerie cold. This record is less bombastic in comparison to other efforts of Nox Arcana, but yet there are few titles which are faster with orchestration elements. ’Carnival of the Lost Souls’ is a ultimate soundtrack for all nightmarish visions. When you are listening this material you will imagine the most wicked parade of skeletons dancing in the circles, diabolical masquerades, evil witches on the pale horses and other creepy and most unlikely creatures around. Although this album is full of ambience and grim-like atmosphere, it’s probably the weakest record that I have received in the promo package directly from NA. Of course, don’t take my words for granted, but ’Carnival of the Lost Souls’ on the first listening seems to be the weaker link of discography. But, nonetheless, if you have enjoyed all other releases from NA you should probably emerge yourself without any problems in this one.
