BLACKTHORN ASYLUMNOX ARCANAwww.MonolithGraphics.com CD’Blackthorn Asylum’ is the latest effort coming from Nox Arcana. This time NA will take you on the trip of madness though god-forsaken sanitarium. The music is more spooky then ever before. Even in some moments of checking this material I was afraid. Also the band choose to create more dark, grim and ghostly melodies. The record is more based on piano tunes, while darksome strings and eerie choirs are in the background. Both brings an amazing yet bizarre and monumental atmosphere to this full-length. Definitely, there are less of bombastic and epic orchestrations this time. Also, the cover artwork as well as the whole booklet-concept, has been done in dark manner but once again wrapped in romantic-gothic aura. That’s actually the trademark of NA . Here and there, you can also notice creepy effects all together with the narrator introduction. Duo, behind the mast of Nox Arcana, has once again proved that still they have a great sense for originality and that their ideas are still coming even after 10 releases so far. I dare to say that this is their most creepy and eerie record ’till date. For those who are more into Metal waters, I will only add that ’ Blackthorn Asylum’ could remind somehow on ’The Grand Psychotic Castle’ from Norwegian-based Tartaros.
