THE FORESHADOWING - Oionos

OIONOS

THE FORESHADOWING

Cyclone Empire CD

These Italians have to be one of the best kept secrets in the world of gloomy music; their 2007. debut „Days of nothing“ kicked asses of all those who layed ther hands on it but unfortunately there weren’t enough of them. Maybe it was due to bad promotion of Candlelight, so for "Oionos“ The Foreshadowing made transition to Cyclone Empire Records and luckily that was the only major change in their world as the new release continues down the road taken on "Days of nothing" and actually betters every aspect of it. Francesco gave us very in-depth interview where he profoundly explained all you should need to know about them (you can read it on our pages) so I will concentrate on actual music. For those unaware, The Foreshadowing could be labelled as Doom / Gothic metal band, but their found their little niche in it - you will have to hear it for yourself. In comparing to their debut, "Oionos" is bigger on dynamics with lots of exchanges in arrangement field but the songs are not very long for this style (7 minutes tops) so it is obvious that the musicians spent a lot of time in perfecting their compositions. The overall atmosphere is truly morose and carries a scent of doom, which is very much in connection with the main album theme of apocalypse. I must compliment especially the keyboard work as it is fairly superior to „Days of nothing“ – the instrument got more space, it is a bit in the background but truly compliments guitar riffs like the missing piece of the puzzle and the its grand tone reminds me whole lot of My Dying Bride. While we’re at those English lads, lots of people compares Marco’s vocals to those of Aaron; okay, they are a bit similar but if one listens closely the fact they are in different league will crystalize. Marco’s clean but sorrowful delivery never falls into the wailing fields which Aaron tends to do from time to time. The icing of the cake is cover song „Russians“ from none other than Sting, maybe you will be surprised by their choice but The Foreshadowing adapted the song to their style without a mistake so „Russians“ became one of the album’s highlights. Seth from Septic Flesh was responsible for the artwork and I must admit that, in my opinion, this is one of his best works – just great! All in all, The Foreshadowing successfully escaped the second album trap on „Oionos“ and proved out that they are worthy of good name everyone who got in contact gave them; so let’s just hope that lots of people will get to hear it and spread the word.
