DISIN4MATIONMASS HYPNOSISGeenger Records CDMass Hypnosis is Croatian metal unit which strikes with their full force on their debut release „Disin4mation“ released on Geenger Records which is also home of our Consecration, it seems that the label decided to gather the best modern heavy bands in the region judging from the two albums I had a chance to hear from them. „Modern“ tag is the only similar thing to Consecration, to avoid any possible confusion, as Mass Hypnosis are totally different story altogether - they play mixture of Swedish melodic death metal (which is prevalent element in their music) and nowadays Metalcore / Hardcore, which is very obvious in omnipresent breakdowns and clean vocal refrains that give extra dose of catchiness to songs. Although that mixture is fairly nothing new and has been done to death in the last few years, Mass Hypnosis possess certain level of good compositional work to rise a bit above the sea of copycats; melodies does invoke the old scene in good way while breakdowns are scarsely used and they won't spoil your listening pleasure. Very important aspect of "Disin4mation" for sure is lyrical concept of the album; you see, Mass Hypnosis took antireligious / antigovernment stance and you can find lots of references to Illumintai, New World Order, media brainwash... here, all scorned and spat upon. One can also spot tons of samples from „Zeigeist“, „Jesus camp“ and various other sources and the actual album is dedicated to George Carlin, so the album is very good ideologically based and obviously the lyrics are not some random bullshit screamed occasionaly but instead lots of thoughts went into them. CD comes in beautifully designed digipack with front cover depicting the figure of Jesus in form of, I think, cockroach so you got one more metaphor right there; also the CD carries multimedia part with audio portion of the album, links for their website and myspace, and video for „Shadowed“, also intertwined with samples and cuts from various news, horrible scenes... So I think that you have already realised by yourself that "Disin4mation" is well rounded by every possible aspect and the work has been seriously done. The only thing that I can point out as negative is production work as I feel that guitars should be much louder and drums are often piercing your eardrums with high sound, also I have heard that Mass Hypnosis sound much better live than on album. All in all, this is one fine release from Croatia so if you found yourself in the above description check it out as Mass Hypnosis can give much more popular bands in similar vein a run for their money.
