VARDE
GJENFERDSEL
Ketzer CD
This is the Norwegian band that plays black metal in vein of older Immortal, but with some folk-like influences that are visible in some structures of melodies. ‘’Varde’’ is their second album, and it isn’t that will blow your mind, or make you to love black metal more. Material is solid, but their style and approach is exploited to many times in the past, so I didn’t noticed anything original or inspiring here. Album have few flaws in some tracks like ‘’Strid’’, that contains hooks and light motives, and which stands for one of the most cheering tracks on the album. There is also ‘’Laktatt’’, with laid back arrangment and very catchy vibe and ‘’Illverk’’. All other songs are more or less average, and I maybe won’t say that they are boring, but they surely lack of inspiration and enthusiasm. Production is okay, but much closer to some ’94-’95 times than to these prime days production works. Cover is lame but I think that most of these underground black metal bands are satisfied with such visual approach.
