KRF
CALES
Metal Breath CD
Cales is Czech band that plays some mixture of thrash/doom and folk metal. Their style is close to Bathory’s Viking style, but yet, there are some Running Wild 80’s elements and above all, Irish folk influences. Celtic/battle music, someone have gave that definition of their music. I can’t agree more than that. Yes, songs are pretty much alive, atmospheric, wild at moments, and totally inspired by music of Ireland. Songs are mainly raw and aggressive but inside the core they are carrying much of the melody and harmony. Vocal of Skuny sound nasty and dirty, and they really reflecting the stench of ancient atmosphere that albums holds within. Album possesses both mid paced song with some darker approach, and those faster, folk based hymns that are filled with cheerful refrains, humping rhythms and playful melodies. Also, there is one ballad oriented track that’s simply great, and it’s pretty much close to ballads of Suidakra’s Arcanum album. Anyhow, KRF belong to the finest breed of Celtic/battle albums, as carries big amount of true energy, originality and colorful atmosphere. Highlights of the album: ‘’Varjag’’, ‘’Savage Blood’’, ‘’Song of Outlaws’’ and ‘’Magnificant Masterpiece of Apocalypse’’.
