DAMNATION REIGNS
THE CLAYMORE
Black Bards CD
The Claymore are representing the most classical and traditional Heavy Metal band. Well, indeed one could find some so called ''Power Metal'' influences in their style as well since their style has also so stronger riffs and even more heavier riffs to offer, but, yet this ''Heavy'' vibe is so obvious. of course, we are talking here about one very melodic record. ''Damnation Reigns'' has very direct way of composing. You have strong and hymn-like refrains with the choral approach. especially, you can hear it in the opener track ''Ashes of the Wicked'' which is probably one of the best song within this particular issue. But, as a matter of fact, also the other tracks as well have some potential to offer. of course, you can compare these guys with various Melodic Metal bands around. There are some noticeable similarities with HammerFall and even with Domine (ok, this is just my point of view after all). I don't now why but i have noticed a kind of vibe that was only characteristic for the bands from melodic Sweden scene for example as In Flames. if you are a fan of melodic metal you are going surly to enjoy in this piece of work. it's nothing so original and special but it has surly some quality to offer. And, at the end of this review I would like just to note that the vocalist Tim Ripper Owens (Malmsteen, ex-Iced Earth, ex-Judas Priest) and the guitar player Victor Smolski (Rage) participated. ''Behind Enemy Lines'' is probably the strongest track on the album and in this particular track Tom has done some very nice vocal lines.
